Bart Skils & Anton Pieete
Bart Skils
Bart Skils's career started in 1995 when he moved to Amsterdam and started working for Outland Records. First playing in Amsterdam's legendary Mazzo club he became resident with his own weekly Voltt nights. Known for his smooth mixing and dynamic sets he steadily developed into one of Amsterdam's finest and most respected DJ's. His style ranges from techno to electro, always funky and danceable.
He is also founder and host of the highly respected Voltt and Traffic events, both situated in Amsterdam. Traffic is based at the famous Melkweg venue and focuses more on the true techno sounds while his Voltt events, based in Dutch poptempel Paradiso, are more minimal and smooth. With his regular appearances along guests such as Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Heiko Laux, Oscar Mulero and Ricardo Villalobos the Traffic and Voltt nights are seen as one of the leading club nights around with a great fan base and good atmosphere.
Recently Bart Skils has teamed up with fellow colleague DJ/producer Jerome to hit the streets with their "Take one, know one" EP which was picked up by Pure Plastic Records. This London based record label is one of the leading techno labels around featuring artists such as Surgeon, Ben Sims, Oscar Mulero and label owner Mark Broom who also did a slamming remix of their "Take one, know one" EP.
With his residencies in clubs like Paradiso, Melkweg and Mazzo, tight productions and regular gigs at all the major dance events, club nights and festivals like Awakenings, Lowlands, Innercity, Pinkpop, Dance Valley, Extrema, Impulz and 05 Days Off he's built himself a strong solid reputation for quality music.
Anton Pieete
Anton Pieete is a key member of Amsterdam’s New School generation and is storming dance floors with his captivating take on contemporary techno. Innovative and In Your Face, his hybrid sound is steeped in industrial techno twisted with tough, edgy high-octane tech house. Not only is he one to hear, but also one to see as reported in Mixmag’s “Keep your eye on” feature (Feb 2010). The global dance music magazine describes him as one hell of a “hot new name you need to know about”…… Anton Pieete’s grandfather – of all people – was the one who stirred up his grandson’s initial urge to make electronic music, by passing on his old synthesizer in 1997. From there on, Anton was inspired to produce tracks of his own. A few years later, he started DJing, and then launched into a three year education in audio design. Before he had gotten his degree, he was already bringing out music that was highly acclaimed by the worldwide techno community. After finishing his studies, Anton had time to start cooking in his studio – while at the same time he began producing and performing as District One (together with Bart Skils), releasing some massive EP’s on 100 % Pure and performing live on all of Holland’s biggest stages. Anton’s first big break came in 2008, when ‘Players’ on Intacto Records hit the 1 top spot on Beatport and became one of the summer’s biggest club hits. Your typical break-glass-in-case-of-emergency record, it was rated by DJs around the globe and ended up topping all the essential charts. Then in 2009, he shot up the Beatport charts again with ‘Siberian” on Intacto Records, driving the international clubbing masses to the dancefloor and journalists scrambling to write reviews, including November’s House Tune of the Month vote from Mixmag for his masterful remix of Steve Mac’s “After Sundown”. Applying the philosophy of 'less is more’, then tweaking it with a heavier, ballsy sound, Anton has clearly carved a fresh, new direction for techno. His straight forward style seems to be exactly what people are longing for after years of clicking and clocking. Whether he is DJing or igniting the crowd with his livesets, performing solo or as District One, he always cooks the floors, gaining him a global reputation for being Amsterdam’s contemporary techno master.
