Thomas Martojo

Allthough one would expect the opposite, music actually did not play any major role throughout the youth of Thomas Martojo - born and raised in The Hague, currently residing in Amsterdam.

As a teenager he first visited the bigger raves and festivals and only than experienced what the world of music had to offer. During this period Dutch techno jocks Steve Rachmad and Dimi Angelís mentored him musically. Versatile other deejays such as Theo Parrish, Traxx, Rob Hall, Laurent Garnier, Larry Levan and Ron Hardy further inspired Thomas and made him regard spinning records as to be old-fashioned craftsmanship. Multidisciplinary, being open minded and exploring the depths of timeless, quality music are what matters most to him as a deejay.

Music wise, Thomas is strongly rooted in classic Chicago and Detroit inspired house and techno, but also known to fuse a wide variety of other styles including disco/not disco, 80's/wave/industrial, electro and acid. As he shifts through these different genres, setting out a progressing - yet surprising - atmosphere in which the deepest depths are followed by build-up peaks back and forth, one can always count on his mixes to differ every single time.

Together with partner-in-crime Casper Tielrooij, Thomas founded Dekmantel early 2007, with whom he strives to present the music he loves. Within less than a year Dekmantel firmly established itself highlighting the infamous illegal Nachtmantel events, a ongoing sold out monthly clubnight at Club NL, in demand summer beach parties (Whoosah) and various events at different venues in Amsterdam such as Paradiso, Flexbar and Studio 80.

Armed with an considerable experience as deejay and a surprising knowledge of electronic music in general (apart from having thrown many memorable clubnights so far), it is pretty safe to state that Thomas Martojo can easily be regarded as one of Holland's most promising youngsters and more is only yet to come.

Combining all different genres - such as (deep) house, techno, disco, acid, afrobeat, new-wave (amongst others) - together, fusing them into one distinguishing representing mix, is what Casper Tielrooij strives for in music.

Casper entered the world of music through the clubbing scène at the age of 16. One year later he bought a pair of decks, which allowed him to do mix things his way. Originally mostly pounding, US based techno, but throughout the years his preferences have slowly emerged. These days disco and deephouse coming from the windy city Chicago and motor city Detroit tend to demand the biggest space in his record bag.

Apart form producing and playing music as a deejay, Casper also is the founding father (together with Thomas Martojo) of Dekmantel. After more than a year of throwing successful parties at Club NL and the Bunker (Nachtmantel) and other venues like Flexbar, Doornroosje and Paradiso, Dekmantel definitely represents the undergroundscene of Amsterdam. As with Dekmantel Casper and his mates emphasize on the music they love, which however though is mostly overlooked in the Dutch club scene by others.
